Democracy summit takes place in Santiago
The presidents of Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Uruguay, as well as the Spanish Prime Minister have met in Santiago for a summit focused on Democracy. The gathering was a follow-up to the first meeting of the initiative “In Defense of Democracy, Fighting Extremism,” organized by the presidents of Brazil and Spain in 2024.

Chile battles its worst wildfires on record
Wildfires raging across Chile have now killed at least 130 people, while hundreds of others have been reported missing. President Gabriel Boric says police will catch those responsible for the blazes, which the UN has branded the deadliest in the country’s history.
